AP govt Oks NTR University of Health Science academic campus at Mangalagiri
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today approved the proposal to start the Academic Campus of the NTR University of Health Science at Managalagiri and 75 acres have been identified for this purpose and resources will be mobilised from UGC, Science & Technology & Biotechnology Department of the Government of India. However, it was made clear that the present Administrative set up and building of the University will continue at Vijayawada. The Chief Minister also sanctioned 76 additional posts in the Health University. He held a review meeting on the Medical Education with Minister and officials at Secretariat.
The land at Mangalagiri (Guntur District) where T.B. Sanitorium is currently located will be allotted to University of Health Sciences for establishing an Academic and Research Development Campus for the University to integrate research and professional development activities for the medical students and faculty. The University will utilise its own resources for establishing a modern campus and initiate measures for accessing funds from the University Grants Commission and Department of Science & Technology.
It is noted that establishment of a Regional Centre of Dr. NTRUHS at Hyderabad is under active consideration in Government and after its final notification, Kadapa will be considered for establishing a Regional Centre for Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences in the next phase.
Regarding the functioning of the semi-autonomous institutions viz., Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, existing at Srikakulam, Ongole, Adilabad and Kadapa, it has been decided to constitute an Expert Committee to study the functioning of the Institutions and explore the possibility of bringing these institutions under the direct control of the Government for better results.
he need for establishing new Medical Colleges has been examined in detail and the options proposed by the HM&FW Dept. were carefully considered and it has been decided to notify the re-constituted High Power Committee for detailed examination of the matter within eight weeks.
Regarding PG admissions, the Medical Council of India norms and other statutory provisions shall be considered in consultation with all the stake holders in the Medical PG Education viz., DME / Vice Chancellor of Dr. NTRUHS and the representatives of the A.P. Govt. Doctors Associations.
