Hyderabad: Here is a Good news for Non-resident Indian students- NRI students who are looking for engineering seats in NRI quota at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-JNTU. According to NRI friends and sources, JNTU formally accepted to allocate at least 100 seats (total) in its colleges. At present 4 years engineering education in USA is costing around Rs. 2.5 crore (nearly 50,000 US dollars). Representatives of Telugu Association of North America had a meeting with JNTU officials in this regard and requested to allocate NRI quota in the University owned Colleges, the sources said.
Apart from Hyderabad campus, JNTU runs campuses in Ananthapur, Kareemnagar and Kakinada.
There 600+ private colleges in the state which are affiliated to JNTU but, runs under private management.
At present, only private colleges are offering NRI quota seats. Many parents, who have completed their education in reputed engineering colleges earlier, whishing to join their children too for higher education. But, lack of NRI quota in government colleges highly disappointing them. JNTU coming forward with NRI quota is a welcome step for NRI students and parents.
The Hyderabad based premium Technical University also accepted to offer M.Tech, Phd through online method. But, for 4 year engineering course, NRI students has to live in Andhra Pradesh and compete the course on campus.
