Hyderabad: The Department of Communication at the Sarojini Naidu School of Arts & Communication, University of Hyderabad (formerly known as Hyderabad Central University) has been ranked in a national survey as the No.1 University department offering postgraduate programmes in mass communication and journalism in the country.
The survey of nation-wide perceptions conducted by Outlook-MDRA (Outlook, June 28, 2010) in about 1000 colleges included both private and autonomous communication schools as well as public institutions. The only other University department to figure in the top-10 is that of University of Pune. The 22-year old department at the University of Hyderabad offers a Masters degree in Communication, with specializations in three streams: print journalism and new media; television and radio broadcasting; and communication and media studies, and attracts students from all over the country and abroad. Its Ph.D programme in communication is also rated highly, with doctoral students engaged in research in a wide range of areas, including: ICTs and development, community media, film and television studies, history of print, and health communication.
