HRD mulling to start B.Ed with graduation in select Universities, NCERT to design new 4 years Integrated Course

Hyderabad: Ministry of Human Resource Development is seriously considering a proposal to start a new four year integrated course- a combination of 3 years Graduation and one year Bachelor of Education degree, the media reports indicated today.
The idea is to offer this special course in select universities a combo of offering- Bachelor of Education (BEd) course along with graduation in Science or Arts subjects under the 3+1 pattern. After completing a three-year graduation course, students can choose to study for another academic year to get a BEd degree.
The new course is not available to students who are studying in Commerce courses.
The decision came out of a meeting by Minister Kapil Sibal, vice-chancellors of various central universities in New Delhi.
According to Indira Gandhi National Open University- IGNOU vice-chancellor VNR Pillai, the course has to get the final nod of various academic cells of universities and then introduced by July 2011.
The Ministry has approached National Council of Educational Research and Training – NCERT to help and design the course materials.
