Hyderabad: From 2013, students from across the country aspiring for engineering, medical and commerce courses may have to take a single, nation-wide entrance test if HRD Minister Kapil Sibal’s proposal gets through.
Mr. Sibal says the new plan reduces the burden on students who now have to appear in multiple tests for colleges in different States.
The planned exam will be modelled on the lines of Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) being used in the US.
In addition, Mr. Sibal said that common core curriculum in sciences had been developed for Classes XI and XII and has asked NCERT to develop model syllabus for these classes.
Similar core curriculum for Commerce would be framed over the next few months, Mr. Sibal said.
The new syllabus is likely to come into effect from the academic year beginning June 2011.
