Hyderabad, January 20: Believe it or not. We could keep our homes warm during the cold nights without using electric heaters or burning wood or fossil fuels.

Thanks to the genius of a team of young mechanical engineers of Andhra Pradesh which has invented the technique by converting the day time solar energy into heat energy in the nights.

They had found that the ordinary paraffin wax combined with a fat
used in making soaps, known as stearic acid, could store solar heat
energy collected from the Sun during the day.The energy thus stored
could be released slowly over night to warm up our homes without any
costs involved. The research finding is being reported in a
forthcoming issue of the International Journal of Renewable Energy
Technology.

The research team was led by mechanical engineer Meenakshi Reddy
of Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and Technology, in
Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.They had explained how certain materials,
known as phase change materials (PCM) can store a large amount of heat in the form of latent heat in a small volume.

PCMs have a high heat of fusion and melt/freeze at a certain
temperature. Heat is absorbed when the material melts and released
when it freezes. Heated in the sun, the mixture of paraffin wax (which melts at about 37 Celsius) and stearic acid becomes entirely liquid. However, as it solidifies, it slowly releases the stored heat, they said.

The process is akin to the phase changing heating that occurs in
hand-warmers that contain a PCM but in this case the material does not
need to be boiled in a pan or heated in a microwave oven to absorb
latent heat. The team has tested spherical capsules just 38 millimeters in diameter containing a blend of paraffin and stearic acid, which can be floated
on the top of water in a tank.

Stearic acid is a lot cheaper on the Indian market than paraffin and
more readily available. The team found that costs could be held down
without reducing the overall heating efficiency of the capsules by
lowering the proportion of paraffin wax.

Hyderabad, November 3: The Andhra Pradesh Government new initiative Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu is getting tremendous response. The candidates searches for the scheme details, available employment opportunities, RYK theme, how to approach and whom to approach are the certain questions candidates are facing now.

The Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu was designed under the state government employment, training for skill development, urban and rural poverty elimination and empowerment, under Rajiv Gandhi Education and Employment Mission of Andhra Pradesh. In short now it is called as REEMAP.

The core objective of the RYK scheme, as per the information provided by the State Government is, to select the candidates, make them fit for the job and offer or place them at a suitable job in private or public sector. RYK enrollment is not a guarantee for job, but the state government mission to provide one lakh jobs by year end and 5 lakh jobs in next fours years may provide jobs to significant number of candidates.

Professor K.C. Reddy is now serving as Vice-Chairman of REEMAP, the key agency coordinating the Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu Scheme. Senior IAS officer Ms Shanti Kumari is the Mission Director.

How to Apply RYK
At present, candidates are enrolling their names for the scheme only through RYK website developed by the Centre for Good Governance and CM office registration counter, besides two-three district level enrollment centers. A: There is a false impression that the JEE can be cracked by learning something’s which are important, and leaving the others. This is absolutely false, as the prestigious institute of the country wouldn’t expect students who search for shortcuts of learning.
But the major thing to remember is to give proper timing to all the subjects according to the ease or flexibility in a subject for that particular student.
So I suggest you to leave selective study pattern as the exam is expected to cover all the topics.

2. What must be the grade or class from when the student must begin his preparation for the JEE?
A: The aspiration towards the JEE should start from the schooling but the basic preparation can be started from the 11th standard. There is no need to start a rigorous practice from the schooling time itself. The foundation can be started from the intermediate stage also.

3. What should be the major focusing areas or subjects which the student has to concentrate in the view of preparation?
A: The most frequently asked question among the FAQ’s, the aspects to be concentrated on are’ Math Physics Chemistry’. But the thing not to be forgotten is that the student should focus more on the concepts he/she is weak rather than the expected questions as some corporate colleges and institutions that misguide students.
A strategy of solving should be developed rather than remembering methods by rote.

4. What is the number of books or sources of concepts a particular student should have read?
A: the number of sources should always be fixed but the candidate can use a few other books from what he/she follows to clarify doubts and have a good practice for the topics. The student should try writing as many mock tests as possible as this will help in bearing the atmosphere of the exam as it is going to be a long 6-hour exam.

5. How should the week before the test be spent so that he student doesn’t get into panic?
A: The week before exam should be the most peaceful time the student should have ever spent while his two years of studying. No need to get tensed. The student must try to relax. Nothing new should be attempted as this could mess up all the clarity that the student previously would have had. But reading summary of the notes prepared earlier is good, as this would help the mind to stay fresh with the subject.

6. Tips regarding the questions to be answered in the exam- In terms of attempting particular questions or types in the section?
A: The first thing to be remembered is the candidate should not jump in to answer the question paper as soon as he receives it. The student who sincerely aspires to crack the JEE should give importance to reading it for Atleast 15min from the commencement of the exam.
The most important thing a student has to remember is that the OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) sheet given to the student has to be dealt with utmost care, as this is the one that decides the entry of the students to the IIT’s. The OMR sheet should be filled as soon as an answer is known rather than delaying it to the end of exam. Also revise every 45 min of what all questions have been answered and what are left out.

There were couple of changes expected this year CAT. Here are some of the highlights:

–The CAT 2011 will have only two sections instead of three.
–The first section will focus on Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation; the second on Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning.
–These two sections will be implemented sequentially with separate time limits.

–The examination will be 140 minutes.
–Candidates will have 70 minutes to answer 30 questions within each section which will have an on-screen countdown timer.

–Once the time ends for the first section, they will move to the second and will no longer be able to go back.

– Although new in the computer-based version of CAT, this format was previously practiced in some of the earlier paper-and-pencil years.

–A 15-minute tutorial will be provided before the start of the test, and candidates are advised to go through that carefully before starting the main examination.
–The total duration will be two hours and 35 minutes including the tutorial.

–A practice test to provide candidates with a feel of the timed sections, as well as navigation and functionality of the actual test will be made available in the coming weeks.

– Once again candidates are advised to go though them carefully to familiarize themselves with the screens, layout, and navigation.

–The number of test days has been retained at 20 days within the window from 22 October to 18 November 2011.
–This would provide candidates with the flexibility of choosing a suitable test day based on their convenience.
–For those candidates who are differently abled, additional support will be provided as required.

More on CAT 2011:

IIMs and Prometric have reviewed the operational processes and contingent on the continued punctuality of candidates, the check-in procedure this year will start one-and-a-half hours before the scheduled test time instead of the previous two hours. With this change, we are also able to have an earlier start time of 3:15pm for the afternoon session.

To offer convenience to more candidates, three new cities – Bhilai, Jammu and Dehradun – have been added to the previous 33 test locations. This will help in bringing CAT closer to the northern states of the country.  To reduce the difficulties in purchasing CAT vouchers, now candidates will also be able to purchase CAT vouchers from 201 Axis Bank branches, an increase of 30 outlets.
