CA CPT Registration | Common Proficiency Test for Chartered Accountancy

Hyderabad: As the Maths and Engineering streams loosing its shine day by day, many students opting for alternate career. CA CPT is the buzzword now for students in Andhra Pradesh. Sensing the industry demand for the certified accounting professionals, students also attracting to the CA CPT course, which may lead the career in to the chartered accountancy. In the last 4-5 years, many institutions scored pretty good ranks in All India CA CPT tests. Now students are looking for resources and accurate information on how to register for CA CPT and what is the course all about. Here is a some inputs for students understanding on the course and its requirements, ICAI rules and resources.

What is the course?:
–Common Proficiency Test is a beginning of your journey in to the Chartered Accountancy field. It is an entry-level examination for admission to the Chartered Accountancy Course.

How is the CPT Test Going to be?

CPT Examination is objective type test comprising of 4 subjects given below:

–Fundamentals of Accounting – 60 marks,

–Mercantile Laws – 40 marks,

–General Economics – 50 marks

–Quantitative Aptitude – 50 marks.

What is the test schedule?
The CPT Examination is held twice a year on a Sunday in the months of June and December every year.
–A student to be eligible to appear in the CPT Examination must have been registered for the CPT Course with Board of Studies of the Institute on or before 1st April in the case of June Examination.
–For the December Examination, students must register on or before 1st October.

What is the Eligibility to sit for CPT Test?
–Student must have passed 12th Class Examination or already appeared in 12th Class Examination of a recognized Board.

Languages Option:
–Candidates have option to opt for English or Hindi language as medium, for the purpose of question papers booklet while answer sheets are in English Language only.

What after Exam?:
–Each student who appears in the CPT Examination is issued a Result Card within two weeks of the declaration of results. No Pass Certificate as such is issued to CPT pass students. A candidate securing 70% and above marks is declared to have passed with Distinction. A candidate securing a minimum of 60% marks in order of merit up to 10th Rank are included in the Merit List and Merit Certificate to such candidates are also issued.

Minimum Age Required:
–There is no stipulation as to the minimum age required for registering for the course.

CPT Along with Intermediate:
–Early registration is allowed to enable the student to prepare for the CPT along with his/her 10+2 Intermediate course.
–There is no stipulation as to the group that a student should pursue at the 10 + 2 level for taking up this course. As such, a student of any group at the 10 + 2 level can take up the course.
–Minimum Marks at 10 + 2: There is no stipulation as to the % of marks that a student should obtain (either at the 10th level or the 10 + 2 level) to be eligible for taking up this course.

Registration Validity Period:
–The registration does not expire. It needs to be done only once.
–A student once registered, can appear at the CPT examinations by paying the examination fee as many times as needed.

Is Registration in time enough?
–Registering before the cut off date is the only requirement to enable a student to appear at the first examination for which he/she is eligible. Along with this the student is also required to apply for the examination for which he/she is eligible. For any subsequent examination, making an examination application within time is the only requirement.

–Registration for the course requires the student to apply in the prescribed form enclosing the details relating to the educational qualifications, age etc., as well as the prescribed fee as mentioned in the application.

Where to Register:

–Students can approach the Regional Councils of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India- ICAI. ICAI is divided into five regions–north, south, east, west, central.

–All the aspects relating to the student except conduct of main examinations are monitored and tracked by the regional councils.

–So for any detail regarding the student one should contact the regional council relevant to him/her. The regional council relevant to a student is the one that related to the location of the student.

–Once a student is registered with a regional council, he/she has to contact that regional council under whom he/she is registered originally for any aspect.

What next after completing the CA CPT Test:
To achieve the CA certification, candidates must go through the Inter and then CA final test after CPT.
